Personal Pickleball Courts & Friendships

Pickleball has long been known as not only a competitive sport but also as a means for friends to get together and have fun. I have been lucky enough to have a few friends who have their own Pickleball court at their home. One of those friends is Dan Gabanek who lives in the state of Washington.

He built his court many years ago and has been inviting groups of people to hang out, grill burgers, sip frosty beverages and play Pickleball on good weather weekends and holidays.

Most of his gatherings include several of the top players in the country so it is always competitive but also very fun. Pickleball is a sport that promotes comradery because the players are close enough to converse on the court and socialize while waiting to play off the court also.

Many of the players in the Pacific Northwest have parties where 10 to 50 players and their families will meet and bring one of their favorite food dishes for a smorgasbord of ethnic foods.  Pickleball has introduced me to hundreds of new friends that I otherwise might not have met.

Most of the players I know like to do a fair amount of good natured ribbing also known as trash talk. We do some smack talking while playing but still are all good friends on and off the court.

The friendships made through the sport of Pickleball keep me excited when I think about the upcoming games we will play. I hope people reading this article will try to make conversation with the people they play with. Who knows you may find a new friend along the way!
